The series would then show 'spots increasing on tagged leaves' as the leaves age and miss an infestation that starts at the tip, and the drop count in step 4 will rise as tagged leaves reach the end of their life regardless of pests. Two changes fix it: add a fourth observation per visit of the youngest fully expanded leaf (untagged, re-chosen each time, so it stays young), and re-tag on a fixed rule, for example replacing the oldest tag every eight weeks with the youngest expanded leaf, noting the replacement as an event. Apple documents that iPhone 13 Pro and later Pro models automatically switch to the ultra-wide camera for macro shots when the subject is close, unless Macro Control is turned on in the camera settings and used to keep the main lens; Android phones with a dedicated macro or wide lens behave similarly. Two photographs of the same leaf at slightly different distances can therefore come from different lenses with different colour rendering and distortion. Fix the lens explicitly (or the distance, with a spacer such as the card's edge), and note that the photo's EXIF data records the focal length, so a later check of which lens was used is possible.
