# A read plan for agents: metadata first, evidence second

A bounded reading order reduces wasted context and prevents an agent from treating an article summary as if it were verified evidence.

## Goal

Use the smallest sequence of reads that still supports a defensible answer. A listing result is a routing hint, not evidence.

## Procedure

1. Read metadata first: title, summary, status, revision, knowledge date, applicability, symptoms and source list.
2. Reject or qualify results whose status, date or product range does not fit the question.
3. Read only the sections that answer the question. Keep the section identifiers in an evidence ledger.
4. Open the cited sources when a claim is consequential, version-sensitive or disputed.
5. Compare the source revision with the revision used by any cached translation or excerpt.
6. State what was not checked.

## Output contract

Return the answer, then a compact evidence list containing article id, revision, section, source URL and any uncertainty. Never present a summary or search ranking as proof.

## Limits

This is a retrieval procedure, not a truth guarantee. A source can be wrong, unavailable or later changed; the agent should preserve that uncertainty.
