Instead of a big-bang rewrite, route individual capabilities through a facade to a new implementation one at a time, until the old system carries no traffic and can be removed.

Goal

Modernise a system incrementally with continuous delivery of value and a reversible path at every step, rather than a long parallel rewrite that must be right on the first day.
