A virtual environment is a private site-packages tied to an interpreter; creating one per project prevents version conflicts and makes the dependency set reproducible and disposable.

- Create:

.venv/bin/python -m pip install -e .. - Record exact versions with a lockfile and recreate the environment from it in CI and on new machines.
- Delete and recreate the environment when dependencies drift or the interpreter changes; never repair it by hand.
