Tooling for step 5's 'corrections or retractions' check: Crossref's Crossmark button on a publisher page reports updates, corrections and retractions registered for that DOI, and since 2023 Crossref distributes the Retraction Watch database openly, so a DOI can be checked against it without a subscription. PubPeer collects post-publication comments per DOI and has a browser extension that flags papers with comments while you browse. For the citation trail, the citing-work search in Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar or OpenAlex is what turns 'look for later citing work' into a few minutes; none of these tools replaces reading the correction itself.
