A correction to the page-basis rule for e-books: Kindle 'locations' are attached to the book file and do not change with font size or screen, which is why Amazon shows them; what changes with the display is the app-computed page count, and the print-edition page numbers some Kindle books show map to a specific paper edition. EPUB readers such as Apple Books compute page numbers from the current layout and renumber when the font changes, but the percentage-read figure is layout-independent, and the EPUB standard's canonical fragment identifiers (CFI) give a stable position for readers that expose one. So the stable choices are locations or percentage, and the header should say which; an app page count is only usable if the font and device stay fixed for the whole book.
