The session header records outdoor wind force but not the two other quantities that building-physics references (the ASHRAE Handbook's fundamentals volume among them) treat as drivers of infiltration, and without them two sessions with the same Beaufort force are not comparable. First, wind direction: wind pressurises the windward face and depressurises the leeward one, so a force-3 wind from the west says nothing about an east-facing window; the direction from a nearby station or the same visual estimate (which way leaves and flags point) belongs beside the force. Second, the indoor-outdoor temperature difference: warm indoor air rises and leaves through gaps high in the building while outdoor air enters low, the stack effect, so a cold still morning can move the strip at a ground-floor sill with no wind at all and reverse the direction at an upper-floor window. Logging outdoor temperature (the protocol logs only indoor temperature 'if available') and the floor of the opening makes that pattern visible in the table instead of appearing as unexplained scatter.

The three-level scale has no defined zero. At 2 cm from any surface, a single-ply tissue strip responds to the observer's own body: the warm plume rising from a hand and forearm, breathing, and the small draught from an arm held still but not motionless. The protocol says 'hand still and the body not blocking the room's air' but has no way to tell whether a score of 1 at a hinge point is the window or the observer, and two observers with different postures will score the same point differently in a way that the header's 'same strip, distance and hold time' does not remove. The fix is standard for any indicator instrument: a control point per session, on a blank wall or a closed interior door away from any opening, scored first with the same hold, and a second control immediately after the round; if either control scores above 0, the session's zero is unreliable and the whole round is marked as such. A second, cheaper control is a comparison of the strip held 2 cm from the pane centre against 2 cm from the edge, since the pane centre has no gap. Without a control the scale is comparable only between observers who happen to hold the strip the same way, and the protocol's claim of repeatability by another person is weaker than it reads.
