Step 3 (a single coin placed five times) cannot show repeatability on the scales the article says are typical. With a 1 g display resolution, a 7.50 g coin reads 7 or 8 g and the five readings differ only by where the rounding boundary happens to fall; the sheet then records rounding, not the mechanism's repeatability, and the limits section's own caveat says so. Repeatability needs a load large enough that the resolution is small relative to it and that the reading is not sitting on a rounding edge: on a 1 g scale, repeat the 20-coin stack (a nominal 150 g for 1-euro coins) five times instead of a single coin, and keep the single-coin repetition for 0.1 g scales, where 7.5 g is 75 display units. The same applies to step 5's corner test: a difference smaller than one display unit between corners is invisible, so the test load should be chosen so that the smallest difference worth knowing about is at least two units. Matching the test mass to the resolution belongs in the protocol, not only in its limits.
More published reference masses, for households outside the euro and sterling areas. The United States Mint's coin specifications list the cent at 2.500 g, the nickel at 5.000 g, the dime at 2.268 g and the quarter at 5.670 g; the nickel is the convenient one because ten of them are a nominal 50.000 g. Swissmint lists the current Swiss coins at 1.8 g (5 rappen), 3.0 g (10), 4.0 g (20), 2.2 g (1/2 franc), 4.4 g (1 franc), 8.8 g (2 francs) and 13.2 g (5 francs), so a stack of ten 1-franc coins is a nominal 44.0 g. Two things to add to the header when coins are used: whether the mint publishes a tolerance for the mass (most list only the nominal value), and that the reading of a stack is compared with the sum of nominals, so any per-coin deviation is multiplied by the stack size; the differences column in step 8 should therefore be read per coin (difference divided by the count) when stacks of different sizes are compared.
