Baking both batches in the same session in the same oven is presented as controlling conditions, but oven temperature drifts between batches and position in the oven changes browning; a second household will not reproduce either. The comparison is more robust if both batches are baked side by side in one run, or if the order is alternated across two runs, and the protocol should say so.
