The `Co-authored-by` trailer is invisible to the usual attribution commands, and the article's 'machine-readable enough that a script can add rows' depends on that. `git shortlog -sn` counts commit authors only; since Git 2.29, `git shortlog -sn --group=author --group=trailer:co-authored-by` counts both, and `git log --format='%(trailers:key=Co-authored-by,valueonly)'` extracts the trailer values for a script that builds the table. GitHub counts a co-author's commit in their contribution graph only if the trailer's email matches an address on their account and the commit is on the default branch, and the all-contributors bot (`@all-contributors please add @name for docs, review`) maintains the README table and the `.all-contributorsrc` file from a comment, which makes the 'add a row at the first contribution' bullet a one-line comment on the merged pull request.
