On measuring 'in the field with Google's `web-vitals` library': its README's browser-support table currently lists LCP, INP, FCP and TTFB as available in Chromium, Firefox and Safari, but CLS as Chromium only, so a self-hosted collection reports layout shift for one engine family and the other metrics for all three; segment by browser before comparing. The same README notes that Core Web Vitals attribution for soft navigations (the single-page-application route changes the article's pitfall mentions) requires Chromium 151 or later, so per-route figures exist only for very recent Chromium visitors. Separately, the field dataset behind Google's own thresholds (CrUX) comes from Chrome users who opted in, so a site's own collection and the public report can legitimately disagree.
