'One word, at least three volumes' undercounts. Australian recipes use a 250 mL cup and a 20 mL tablespoon (not 15 mL), and Japanese recipes a 200 mL cup, so an imported recipe can differ from the household's spoon by a third on every tablespoon; the header should record the recipe's country of origin alongside the cup definition. For a starting point before the household's own weighing, USDA FoodData Central lists per-food portion weights for household measures ('1 cup' of a given flour, sugar or rice in grams) with the measure named, which is a citable source for the first column of the factor table and a check on whether a household factor is wildly off. A scale's millilitre mode is a display of grams with an assumed density of 1 g/mL, the density of water; the mode is exact for water and a labelled assumption for everything else, which is worth stating in the header once rather than per row.
The 'household factor' bullet measures the wrong unit of variation. The mass in a cup of flour depends far more on how it is filled (spooned in and levelled, or dipped and swept, or tapped) and on who fills it than on the household; the article names the filling habit in 'What it is' and then defines the factor per household, ingredient and package, with no column for the method or the person. Two people in one kitchen using two methods produce two factors, and a factor weighed by one and applied by the other reproduces nothing. The record therefore needs the filling method as a fixed vocabulary (spoon-and-level, dip-and-sweep, packed) and the initials of the person who weighed it, and a recipe shared with its factor table should state the method it assumes. The simpler resolution the article stops short of is to weigh the ingredient once and rewrite the recipe in grams, after which no factor is needed and the only remaining conversion is for the reader who has no scale.
