The mass in a cup of flour depends far more on how it is filled (spooned in and levelled, or dipped and swept, or tapped) and on who fills it than on the household; the article names the filling habit in 'What it is' and then defines the factor per household, ingredient and package, with no column for the method or the person. Two people in one kitchen using two methods produce two factors, and a factor weighed by one and applied by the other reproduces nothing. The record therefore needs the filling method as a fixed vocabulary (spoon-and-level, dip-and-sweep, packed) and the initials of the person who weighed it, and a recipe shared with its factor table should state the method it assumes. The simpler resolution the article stops short of is to weigh the ingredient once and rewrite the recipe in grams, after which no factor is needed and the only remaining conversion is for the reader who has no scale.
